FACILITIES TECHNICIAN
POSITION SUMMARY
The Facilities Technician is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and security of the school’s building and grounds. This position ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include general maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial cleaning as needed, ordering supplies, and on-call responsibilities for security systems, fire sprinkler systems, and contracted maintenance scheduling for HVAC and plumbing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilities Maintenance & Groundskeeping
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on school buildings, fixtures, and equipment.
Conduct preventative maintenance on facilities, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Maintain school grounds, including landscaping, lawn care, snow removal, and general upkeep of outdoor spaces.
Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of outdoor common areas, parking lots, and walkways.
Custodial & Cleaning Duties
Assist with custodial cleaning tasks as needed, including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
Perform emergency clean-ups and address sanitation concerns promptly.
Order janitorial and cleaning supplies, ensuring an adequate inventory of necessary products.
Ensure classrooms, restrooms, and other facility areas are stocked with essential supplies, such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning products.
Security & Safety
Assist in maintaining the security of school buildings and property by performing periodic checks.
Monitor and maintain security systems, including alarm systems, cameras, and door access controls.
Serve as an on-call contact for emergency situations related to security, fire sprinkler systems, and building safety.
Event Support
Set up and take down equipment, seating, and other necessary items for special school programs, assemblies, and events.
Contracted Maintenance & Compliance
Coordinate and schedule maintenance with external contractors for HVAC, plumbing, and other specialized services.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
IT & Technical Support (Preferred but not required)
Assist with minor IT-related tasks such as troubleshooting AV equipment, basic network issues, and projector/sound system setup for events.
Work with IT staff to ensure smooth operation of technology used in school facilities.
On-Call Responsibilities
Be available for after-hours emergency calls related to facility issues, security alarms, or fire safety systems.
Respond to urgent maintenance or security issues as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certifications in maintenance-related fields preferred.
Experience in facility maintenance, groundskeeping, custodial work, or security-related work.
Knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
Ability to operate maintenance tools, landscaping equipment, and basic security technology.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
Effective communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to manage supply inventory and order necessary janitorial products efficiently.
Some technical experience with IT, including AV equipment and basic troubleshooting, preferred.
WORK CONDITIONS
Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm; with some flexibility for after-hours and weekend on-call duties.
Indoor and outdoor work environments in varying weather conditions.
Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, ladder work, and operating maintenance and cleaning equipment.
SALARY RANGE
$20 - $30 per hour
BENEFITS
After 90 days of employment, health stipend and retirement match of 3%.
