Educational Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Educational Assistant plays a vital role in supporting both the classroom learning environment and broader school operations. This individual serves as a collaborative partner to teachers, assisting with academic instruction, behavior management, classroom preparation, student supervision, and safety. EA’s also contribute to a positive school culture by building relationships with students, modeling Christian character, and maintaining a flexible, helpful presence throughout the day.

This role includes supervision responsibilities (lunch, recess, drop-off/pick-up), instructional assistance (one-on-one and small groups), and classroom support (grading, prepping, covering short teacher breaks, and potential subbing).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom & Instructional Support

  • Assist students individually or in small groups under the direction of the teacher.

  • Support students with behavioral, academic, or social-emotional needs.

  • Help with grading, preparing materials, organizing supplies, and managing classroom tasks.

  • Step in to supervise a class temporarily (e.g., during restroom breaks or short absences); may be asked to substitute if qualified.

  • Become familiar with classroom curriculum and routines to ensure a smooth flow of instruction and transitions.

Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other unstructured times alongside teachers and volunteers.

  • Support safe and orderly drop-off and pick-up processes.

  • Enforce behavior expectations and promote respectful, inclusive interactions.

  • Be familiar with emergency procedures and classroom emergency binders.

  • Assist with minor student injuries and basic first aid needs.

  • Complete accident reports as required.

Student Engagement

  • Greet and interact with students in a warm, positive, and respectful manner.

  • Encourage constructive play and physical activity during recess.

  • Help students feel seen, supported, and safe throughout the school day.

Staff Collaboration

  • Maintain open communication with teachers and staff about student needs and behavior.

  • Enter classrooms with a spirit of attentiveness—ask, observe, and step in where needed.

  • Work with a team mindset, showing initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to help across campus.

SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23).

  • Adhere to and support the school’s Statement of Faith.

  • Regularly attend a Bible-believing church.

  • Model Christ-like character in speech, conduct, and attitude.

  • Serve as a spiritual role model for students and fellow staff.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, including two Friday mornings per month.

  • Be present 30 minutes before and after school hours unless otherwise scheduled.

  • Stay after school for occasional meetings called by the administration.

  • Represent the school professionally at all times, including during extracurricular events.
